WELCOME TO CHRIST CENTRAL CHURCH!

Whatever your spiritual disposition - skeptic, seeker or follower - we are glad you are with us! We desire to have all of our hearts strengthened by the grace of Christ through today's worship service. We pray that we will leave eager to share that grace with the people around us throughout the coming week.

  • Freeing people to enjoy God, hear His truth, grow in diverse community and engage the world with the renewed dignity that comes from Christ.

  • Christ Central Church seeks to be a culturally competent church community. We strive to be a church that is Biblically authentic and true in its worship of God. We desire to communicate and grow spiritually from the message of the gospel as it is read, preached, shared and taught faithfully, clearly and relevantly. We long to be a community filled with loving and encouraging relationships. We seek to spread the good news in word, thought and deed as a community of individuals and families that are faithful to serve, trust, share, grow and spread the redeeming love of Jesus everywhere, in everything and with all people.

Nursery care is available for the entire service for children ages 6 months through preschool (except 5th Sundays). Our nursery provides a safe and nurturing environment where young children can play, explore, and learn while parents attend the service.

Prayer of Praise

  • Apostles’ Creed

    I believe in God, the Father Almighty,

    the Creator of heaven and earth,

    And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,

    who was conceived of the Holy Spirit,

    born of the Virgin Mary,

    suffered under Pontius Pilate,

    was crucified, died, and was buried.

    He descended into hell.

    The third day He arose again from the dead.

    He ascended into heaven

    and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty,

    from whence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.

    I believe in the Holy Spirit,

    the holy catholic church,

    the communion of saints,

    the forgiveness of sins,

    the resurrection of the body,

    and life everlasting.

    Amen.

  • Acts 21:1-16

    Paul Goes to Jerusalem

    1And when we had parted from them and set sail, we came by a straight course to Cos, and the next day to Rhodes, and from there to Patara. 2And having found a ship crossing to Phoenicia, we went aboard and set sail. 3When we had come in sight of Cyprus, leaving it on the left we sailed to Syria and landed at Tyre, for there the ship was to unload its cargo. 4And having sought out the disciples, we stayed there for seven days. And through the Spirit they were telling Paul not to go on to Jerusalem. 5When our days there were ended, we departed and went on our journey, and they all, with wives and children, accompanied us until we were outside the city. And kneeling down on the beach, we prayed 6and said farewell to one another. Then we went on board the ship, and they returned home.

    7When we had finished the voyage from Tyre, we arrived at Ptolemais, and we greeted the brothers and stayed with them for one day. 8On the next day we departed and came to Caesarea, and we entered the house of Philip the evangelist, who was one of the seven, and stayed with him. 9He had four unmarried daughters, who prophesied. 10While we were staying for many days, a prophet named Agabus came down from Judea. 11And coming to us, he took Paul’s belt and bound his own feet and hands and said, “Thus says the Holy Spirit, ‘This is how the Jews at Jerusalem will bind the man who owns this belt and deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.’” 12When we heard this, we and the people there urged him not to go up to Jerusalem. 13Then Paul answered, “What are you doing, weeping and breaking my heart? For I am ready not only to be imprisoned but even to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.” 14And since he would not be persuaded, we ceased and said, “Let the will of the Lord be done.”

    15After these days we got ready and went up to Jerusalem. 16And some of the disciples from Caesarea went with us, bringing us to the house of Mnason of Cyprus, an early disciple, with whom we should lodge.

    Reader: “This is the Word of the Lord.”

    Congregation: “Thanks be to God.”

Sermon

A Missional State of Mind

Rev. Tony Myles

Acts 21:1-16

In Jesus we are bound to a calling to share the gospel among the nations. Therefore, we must not shrink back from that call.

  • Resisting detours from the mission

  • Recounting God’s acts in the mission

  • Reaffirming unity as the mission

  • PRAYER OF CONFESSION:

    Father in heaven, wholeness, healing and flourishing come from what you are doing.  Through your Spirit, you are spreading the healing reign of Jesus.  We come to you this morning owning the fact that we have not believed this.  We have lived in despair, thinking that change is not possible.  Or, we have lived in a desperate frenzy, trying to bring about healing and wholeness with our own strength.  We now turn away and trust in what you have promised to do instead of focusing on what we are capable of doing.  We pray in Christ’s name, Amen.

    ASSURANCE OF PARDON:

    16 The nations shall see and be ashamed of all their might;

    they shall lay their hands on their mouths;

    their ears shall be deaf;

    17 they shall lick the dust like a serpent,

    like the crawling things of the earth;

    they shall come trembling out of their strongholds;

    they shall turn in dread to the Lord our God,

    and they shall be in fear of you.

    Micah 7:18-19

The Lord’s Supper

During The Lord’s Supper, please join a member of leadership for prayer in the red chairs at the front and the back of the sanctuary.

Prayer for Those Searching for Truth

God, You claim that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. Grant that I might be undaunted by the cost of following You as I consider the reasons for doing so. If what You claim is true, please guide me, teach me and open to me the reality of who You are. Give me an understanding of You that is coherent, convincing, and that leads to the life that You promise.
